A Curriculum Built Around Your Child
Our emergent curriculum adapts to each child’s interests, while supporting progress toward key developmental milestones. Learning is enriched through our proprietary programs in early literacy, fine arts, and movement and physical education – with additional enrichment in French, sign language, yoga and STREAM.
Emergent Curriculum: A Play-based Approach to Early Learning
At Kids & Company, we follow an emergent approach to curriculum—a child-centered, play-based way of learning that begins with careful observation of children’s interests, questions, and developmental cues. Rather than relying on rigid, pre-set lesson plans, our educators observe what each child is drawn to and create meaningful, individualized learning opportunities that build on those interests. This responsive approach supports deeper engagement and learning by meeting children where they are—academically, socially, and emotionally.
This holistic approach to learning covers the four key areas of development – motor skills, language, cognitive growth, and social-emotional development – while supporting each child’s individual learning style and pace of development. Because learning is rooted in their own interests, they develop a true love of learning. Through play, all areas of development are fostered.
Learning & Development
By understanding where each child is in these areas of development, educators can introduce learning opportunities that are both engaging and truly responsive to each child’s needs and interests.
Motor Skills
Our educators design activities that encourage movement, exploration, and independence—whether it’s crawling through tunnels, building with blocks, or experimenting with scissors and paint. By observing each child’s interests and abilities, educators create opportunities that strengthen balance, coordination, and confidence.
Language
Language grows from connection, and it starts long before first words. Our educators introduce sign language and other early communication tools to help children express their needs and feelings even before they can speak. Through songs, stories, and responsive conversations, educators build on each child’s natural curiosity about language.
Cognitive Growth
Emergent learning develops through curiosity. Educators follow the questions and discoveries that spark a child’s imagination—introducing puzzles, STREAM projects, or open-ended play that promote memory, reasoning, and creative problem-solving.
Social–Emotional Development
Relationships are at the heart of our curriculum. Educators model empathy, guide collaboration, and create inclusive group experiences that reflect children’s interests and emotions. Through shared routines, problem-solving, and imaginative play, children develop lasting social skills.

Enrichment Programs
- Sign Language supports early communication by giving infants and toddlers ways to express their needs and emotions before, or alongside, spoken language—helping reduce frustration and support positive interactions. For older children, learning sign language deepens awareness of non-verbal communication while fostering inclusion and empathy.
- Yoga promotes calm, mindfulness, and emotional regulation through playful stretching and breathing.
- French introduces new sounds and phrases through songs and play.
- STREAM: STREAM stands for Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math. These concepts are woven into our Preschool and Kindergarten curriculum to encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving.
