Building Future Leaders at Kids & Company
For Teens Ages 13–17
The Kidco Leadership in Training (LIT) Program is designed to prepare adolescents aged 13–17 years old to become future leaders, innovators, and camp counsellors. Through structured training, hands-on experience, and leadership development, the program equips participants with the essential leadership skills and credentials needed to work with children in recreational camp and community settings.
Campers will participate in the following training modules:
- Leadership and teamwork
- Child development and behavioural practices
- Safety, first aid, and emergency procedures
- Program planning and facilitation
- Inclusion and anti-bullying practices
- Communication and mentiorship skills
Each participant will get hands-on experience assisting in children’s programs, day camps, or recreational activities, supervised by experienced staff whose training and expertise is in LIT programming. There will be opportunities for reflection, including a final evaluation and feedback from supervisors.
Throughout the program, participants will:
- Learn the core responsibilities of camp counselors, from program planning to conflict resolution
- Work closely with camp leadership to develop their unique leadership style and confidence
- Gain practical experience in programming, counselor skills and strategies, resume building, and interview preparation
- Opportunity to progress through a Level 1 and a Level 2 LIT certification, available on consecutive weeks
Upon program completion, participants will receive a formal certificate and a reference letter for future employment or volunteer work. Beyond credentials, the program offers adolescents a meaningful opportunity to grow as leaders and role models; With structured support, hands-on learning, and community partnerships, the program builds a strong foundation for lifelong skills, employability, and civic engagement.
Program Schedule
The LIT program is made up of 2 progressive levels. Each level runs for two weeks, and the full program can be completed over four weeks, though families have flexibility in how and when levels are taken.
July Sessions
- Week of July 6 and July 13: LIT Level 1
- Week of July 20 and July 27: LIT Level 2
August Sessions
- Week of August 3 and August 10: LIT Level 1
- Week of August 17 and August 24: LIT Level 2
The cost of the program is $500 per 2-week (1-level) session. Children may complete levels in either July or August, or mix sessions across both months.
For example, a child could attend:
- Level 1 July (weeks of July 6 and 13), and
- Level 2 in August (weeks of August 17 and 24)
Families may also choose to complete only some levels this summer and defer Level 2 to summer 2027, if preferred.
